    What to look for.

Dry rot flourishes in damp and poorly ventilated environments. It will most often be found in enclosed hard-to-reach areas such as under floorboards, behind skirting boards and door frames/castings.

There are obvious signs to look out for and any one of these will indicate the presence of dry rot:

    • Darkened / Cracked Timbers
    • Red Dust
    • Grey Coloured Skin on Timber
    • Damp Musty Smell
    • White, Fluffed ‘Cottonwool’ Mycelium

The first stage in any treatment for dry rot in Bournemouth and Dorset is to identify the initial cause. We will remove the source of the moisture and repair all of the surroundings.

    Dry Rot Eradication

    What We Do.

All of our team members are highly experienced surveyors who will know exactly how to properly identify dry rot in Bournemouth and Dorset and to determine its extent.

Assess – We will begin with a thorough check to find out if Dry Rot is present, the severity and how quickly it is spreading.

Control the moisture – By controlling the moisture source, this will enable the structure to dry out and prevent dry rot spores from germinating.

Treatment – Some areas of an outbreak may also need to be treated with a masonry biocide and fungicide pastes in order to prevent further outbreaks of wood rotting fungi and/or wood boring insects.

Removal of infected timber – Having treated the timber, we remove infected material, replace/repair and consider engineering methods to isolate structural timbers.

Prevention – As a preventative method, we will then improve the ventilation within a property. It may also be necessary to install a mechanical ventilation solution to remove moisture-laden air from the property.

Advise – Finally, we will advise what (if any) additional steps may be required to prevent the possibility of another issue occurring at a later date.

At No. 1 Home, we leave nothing to chance when dealing with dry rot in Bournemouth and the rest of Dorset.
