Cavity Wall Extraction

What is it?

A Cavity Wall is a wall formed from two thicknesses of brickwork or blockwork with a space between them.

Weather Damage – The weather in the UK can take its toll on the brickwork of your property, which will open small gaps that allow water and moisture to gain access to the cavity.

Cavity Wall Insulation – The insulation works by minimising heat loss.  Once the insulation becomes damp or wet, this energy saving behaviour is greatly reduced. Instead of saving money, dampness and cold penetrate the cavity through the moisture inside the wet insulation.

Damp – Wet insulation will cause damp problems inside the home, damage to the property and rust on the wall ties.  Also, because the insulation is inside a cavity, it is almost impossible for it to dry out necessitating cavity wall extraction in Bournemouth and the rest of Dorset.

Cavity wall insulation can cause problems if:

  • It’s old and worn.
  • It was installed incorrectly.
  • Your home is in a high exposure area (find out if yours is below).
  • The cavity was not clear before the insulation was installed.
  • The structure of your home is not suitable for cavity wall insulation.
  • You have damaged walls such as cracks in the brickwork, render or pointing.
  • Blockages have entered the cavity because of building works or home improvements.

Cavity Wall Extraction

WHAT WE DO.

Access Cavity – The first step is to create a point of access, which involves the strategic removal of certain bricks close to the bottom of the wall.

Breakdown – Once we have access to the cavity, we are able to place the nozzle of an air hose inside, which injects high-pressure air into the cavity to break down the insulation into small pieces.

Extraction – The small pieces fall to the bottom of the cavity and are extracted using an industrial vacuum through one of the holes created by removing the bricks.

Disposal – The small pieces are collected in an industrial grade bag which makes it easy and efficient to pack up and take away for responsible disposal and recycling.

As a country, the UK is largely exposed to the elements with the majority of the country classified as either ‘severe’ or ‘very severe’. It is essential that if you fall within any of the affected areas (or even if you’re located within an area that receives ‘moderate’ coverage) that you seek out our services.

Only by removing the defective insulation through cavity wall extraction in Bournemouth and the rest of Dorset, will your home be fully protected against the elements.

We will be able to arrange a convenient date and time to visit your property and take you through the process of our cavity wall extraction in Bournemouth and the rest of Dorset.

You will receive a no-obligation quotation for the work and you will have the chance to ask any and all the questions you can think of.
